Bitcoin (BTC) ETFs led the market, but other top altcoins including Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) surprised many with substantial growth and tens of billions dollars of inflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"bitcoin_etfs_lead_despite_market_challenges\">Bitcoin ETFs lead despite market challenges<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Institutions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valuewalk.com\/news\/cathie-woods-ark-buys-59m-in-crypto-stocks-like-coinbase-circle-as-market-slump-deepens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">looking to invest<\/a> in crypto were drawn primarily to Bitcoin ETFs throughout 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), offered by asset manager BlackRock, raised approximately $25 billion over the year<\/strong>. Among all ETF asset classes, it ranked sixth in net inflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24IBIT&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$IBIT<\/a> is the only ETF on the 2025 Flow Leaderboard with a negative return for the year. As Bloomberg&#8217;s Eric Balchunas observed, &#8220;If you can do $25 billion in a bad year, imagine the flow potential in a good year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"ethereum_xrp_and_solana_etfs_show_wider_demand\">Ethereum, XRP, and Solana ETFs show wider demand<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most defining story of 2025 was the successful broadening of the crypto ETF universe beyond Bitcoin, reflecting a clear institutional demand for varied exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Major Ethereum (ETH) ETFs hold <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/etf\/ethereum\/\">a combined $17.5 billion<\/a> in AUM<\/strong> as of December. July was robust, with total inflows reaching $4.86 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While recent weeks have seen<a href=\"https:\/\/sosovalue.com\/assets\/etf\/us-eth-spot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> net outflows<\/a>, a perspective shared by many market participants is that the long-term value of the underlying Ethereum network remains strong, suggesting potential for future ETF growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>XRP ETFs have weathered market volatility the best throughout the year<\/strong>. In December, Sui Chung, CEO of crypto price index provider CF Benchmarks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=99ny6VRgZW0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told CNBC<\/a> that <strong>XRP ETFs had crossed $1 billion in total AUM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinglass.com\/xrp-etf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data shows<\/a> these ETFs have recorded over $425 million in inflows since mid-November. Chung suggests XRP&#8217;s mainstream recognition and strong performance over several years could drive ETF prices higher in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chung also highlighted Solana (SOL) as another standout performer in 2025. The asset, which powers the Solana blockchain ecosystem, drew strong institutional interest throughout 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SOL ETFs hold <a href=\"https:\/\/sosovalue.com\/assets\/etf\/us-sol-spot\">$946.7 million in assets<\/a> as of December<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demand has remained resilient, with inflows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinglass.com\/sol-etf\">exceeding<\/a> $90 million in a single month despite overall market volatility.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditional investors&#8217; growing understanding of Solana and its numerous applications has positioned the asset as increasingly attractive for 2026, according to Chung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"looking_back_a_year_of_expansion\">Looking back: a year of expansion<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>2025 has represented a turning point for crypto ETFs. While Bitcoin has maintained its dominance with $66 billion in AUM, the diversification into altcoin ETFs has signaled growing institutional confidence. <strong>Combined, the major crypto ETF categories have attracted over $85 billion in assets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What began as a Bitcoin-focused market has evolved into a multi-asset class ecosystem.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ethereum&#8217;s $17.5 billion milestone, XRP&#8217;s $1 billion milestone, and Solana&#8217;s near-billion-dollar total show that investors are willing to explore different blockchain ecosystems.
